Don’t most humans enjoy life? Why would we take away the pleasure of possible future humans?
Even if we were to only take humans into consideration, then any amount of humans with lives of suffering is not worth the pleasures of the majority. When people are asked about their greatest pleasures, the most common answers are pizza, video games, love, sex, and accomplishing personal goals. But are these things worth the worst horrors that humans go through, like slavery, child abuse, and all the other tortures?
We don’t actually know if most humans enjoy life. There have been studies that suggest this, but they are most likely biased because a narrow portion of the human population was surveyed. There’s many in situations where they can’t take these surveys or wouldn’t have been offered to take the survey. So these studies naturally leave out those going through extreme suffering.
We also need to consider other species. Humans are just a small fraction of life on the planet. Most animals have far harsher lives. They have to deal with predation, starvation, injuries from accidents, torture from getting eaten alive slowly or swallowed alive, watching their babies get eaten or tortured, get abandoned by their mothers, and other horrors. Most wildlife die as babies. It’s estimated that 90-99% of wildlife die during adolescence.
It’s a myth that animals only hunt to eat and then kill fast. Many “play with their food” first, don’t care if the other animal is alive just as long as they’re mostly incapacitated while they’re eating, and torture for fun with no intent of eating the victim.
Non existent beings don’t have needs that need to be fulfilled, and they’re not missing out on anything or getting harmed by not being born. There’s no point in continuing the cycle of life by letting a vast amount of beings to come into existence just so some can experience some pleasure, while others are tortured. That’s called a sacrifice.
